Severe Asthmatic-are you like me?Help!!
Question:
Hi. I am female, and have had severe asthma for 30yrs. I am looking to connect with anyone who has had severe asthma (frequent hospital emergency visits, multiple daily steroid and flovent use) and has found any tangible means, other than flovent and steroid use, to lessen its severity. I know my triggers well, and controlling them has minimal effect-I can’t live in a bubble. Does someone have a personal victory to share? Thanks, S
Hiya – Im 32, and Im presently disabled for asthma, but I am to the point now (after 3 years) where I can have a life, and going out the door doesnt mean Im going to have an attack. I take Proventil inhaler, albuterol + Atrovent in the neb, flovent, serevent, prednisone 15mg, claritin and prilosec. It took a LONG time for the Flovent and Serevent combo to get me down to 15mgs on the prednisone. At one point I was up to 60/day. Right before I went on disability I was going to the ER at least once a week, it was awful. The first year on disability was really pretty bad too. But little by little I have gotten better. Could I go back to work? I’m not sure, especially since I was a chef. Plus, who would hire me with my history? I can tell you that the Flovent Serevent combo really has worked for me and I seem to have very drug-resistant asthma, not a lot of the new stuff works for me, like Singulair, Accolate, they did nothing. I wish you the best of luck. Life is uncertain – eat dessert first. Nancy 8=: )

cleaning forced-air heating ducts
Question:
Wish I had the material in front of me, but before moving we looked into an electrostatic filter for the air intake of our forced air system. It was a permanent unit that required no cleaning and runs on 120 house current. How it works is to attract and then zap dust being carried through the intake (essentially a miniature incineration of dust). Average cost was $600 Canadian depending on size. I never saw it work but the fuel oil company (who are very good) gave me contacts of the couple of people who have used them in the area, and they report 1) a big improvement and 2) they feel their total system now reduces the dust problem in the house where previously it made it worse. We were convinced (but then we bought a new house and didn’t need it). Hope this posting doesn’t prompt an onslaught of SPAM. Bill. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – For anyone who has asthma and a forced-air heating system, 1 month ago I had the entire system "power-vacuumed" for about 450 dollars (depends on number of ducts) and have had a very definite decrease in my symptoms, my need for albuteral/serevent and flovent (from 4-6 to 2 puffs per day). My previous heating filters would be pretty dirty (completely gray) after a month, the latest one is basically spotless after 4 weeks of use so I believe that the air in the house must be much cleaner. If you are in this situation you may want to give this a try. The cleaning company said it should be done every 4-7 years depending upon whether you have pets etc…It seems like a better guide is how long it takes the filter to get dirty.

Just wanted to add that if anyone uses a humidifer with their heating system, the possibility exists for water vapor to become trapped in the elbows of the pipes thus leading to the growth of mold when the system is not in use for a period of time or is shut off for the spring/summer. Jarrett I live in the country – lots of dirt, polle and grass clippings sucked into my outdoor air unit. I get my ducts cleaned every 5 years. It does make a tremendous difference!
Response:
Hit the send button too soon. My point is if you use a humidifier pipes should be cleaned out on a more regular basis, say at the start of each heating season. Also, de-lime the humidifier plates. Sorry about that, Jarrett Just wanted to add that if anyone uses a humidifer with their heating system, the possibility exists for water vapor to become trapped in the elbows of the pipes thus leading to the growth of mold when the system is not in use for a period of time or is shut off for the spring/summer. We had our ducts cleaned before we turned the heat on in this house. We moved in it in August and the house is 11 years old. The former owners smoked and never had it done. All I can say is that my 2 kids who get sick all the time were much more manageable this winter season. I believe its a good investment. We also bought a 3M electro-magnetic furnace filter and I think that has helped tremondously. The dut is much less compared to when we had the regular furnace filter on. Gina

You can keep the system even cleaner by installing washable filters on your air return vents, and on your heater vents. I use cheesecloth, so that they can all be removed weekly and tossed in the washer. Chris Owens

Root Cause?
Question:
Is there a root cause for anxiety and panic? How and why do we *REALLY* perceive danger? A simple answer please. Thank you
Response:
:Is there a root cause for anxiety and panic? I think there are many reasons why we develop an anxiety disorder…. not just one. I don`t think we should "focus" alot of our energies on the "why" but more on the "what can I do to get better". :How and why do we *REALLY* perceive danger? For me it is what I tell myself that makes something dangerous or threatening. Jackie ~*~Be Who You Are.. And Say What You Feel.. Because Those Who Mind Don’t Matter.. And Those That Matter Don’t Mind…~*~
Response:
For me the "root cause" is genetics. My father’s side of the family most had some form of anxiety/depression. As a result my daughter [26] has been on Zoloft for anxiety. My son [24] has been on and off meds. He should continue with the Zoloft but like many others he does not like the idea of admitting something is wrong. For me the "Why" is genetics. I got it from my kids. :-] Like Jackie said we need to focus on "What" rather than "Why". If you do not admit there is a problem and try to help get it "fixed" there will never be a solution for it. I quit fighting with anxiety a long time back. I use the meds that work for me and as a result I have had a very good quality of life. Charlie Tuna

"sunray" wrote Is there a root cause for anxiety and panic? How and why do we *REALLY* perceive danger? A simple answer please. Thank you
Hi Sunray, there is no simple answer. Here is a link to a site I find useful. Below is an extract about the theories on what causes anxiety. http://www.panicattacks.com.au/about/anxdis/cause.html Excluding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder there are three main theories about the cause of anxiety disorders. These are 1~Biological 2~Behavioural 3~Psychodynamic 1. The biological theory includes the genetic predisposition in panic disorder and presupposes a chemical imbalance in the brain. Biological theory: includes a genetic contribution for panic disorder 2. The behavioural theory sees the cause as learned behaviour, including our negative thought patterns. There is no doubt we ‘learn’ to become afraid of our panic attacks…and we learn very very quickly! From this fear, the multitude of fears grow. Each feeding on each other and impacting severely on our lives 3. The psychodynamic theory looks at childhood issues as being the cause. While not everyone with an anxiety disorder has a history of childhood abuse, many people do. And the childhood abuse issues do need to be taken into account. Childhood issues also play a role in people who don’t have a history of childhood abuse. As children we all learnt from a very early age that we needed to become, ‘a good nice person’. hope that’s simple enough Vanessa

I think so too. I think we have a "weak" genetic link that breaks when enough stress is applied, and will probably spend the rest of our lives learning how to cope with it. – K
Response:
That does not mean that our lives have to be ruined. I am retired from 2 jobs [medical and governmental], my daughter is an engineer in Ft. Lauderdale, my son is a licensed electrician and doing well also. He still has not fully come to terms with his "inherited" anxiety but he will. Really I am surprised he has not electrocuted himself by now. :-] I think that a lot of us are Type A with a perfectionist/controlling personality. In short, we are the people that contribute to progress but at a tremendous cost to ourselves. It is learning to control the anxiety and have it work for you that is a big step forward. Don’t fight it but use it to accomplish constuctuive things like education, excercise, outdoor activites etc. Sitting around dwelling on our anxieties just makes it worse. I am on, Zoloft, Elavil and Xanax as needed and my life has been great. I have "bumps" every now and then but nothing that I can not handle. As a result of my life of anxiety the best thing happened to me 9 years ago. A heart attack. Because of that I woke up and faced the reality of what anxiety can do. Never thought too much about it before then. I was just another hyper workaholic. Now I take one day at a time and enjoy the hell out of it. If I have a PA I pop a Xanax and dare it to continue. :-] Charlie Tuna

– I’ve heard that is one of the more stimulating ones – so if you are anxiety prone, you might get more anxious with this one – but I have not tried it myself. For bipolar, lithium with some long-term benzo seems to be a first choice, or tegratol, or Valproate. I used to take Xanax for panic but I think i had the panic from too high a Synthroid dose. I only take it now very rarely but my Synthroid has been reduced since then about 40%. Squiggles

As always, the effects depend on the individual, and I am not a medical pro. However, I am ramping up on Wellbutrin myself. Your results may vary, especially since I am very responsive to any neuro drug I can find (one drink gives me a buzz, one cup of coffee wakes me right up, one dose of Benadril makes me a zombie for 24 hours) Wellbutrin claims to be very low on side effects (it claims to be one of the few ADs that rarely cause sexual side effects). The only ones I have noticed from personal experience are diminished appetite and weight loss, which are fine since I’m overweight to begin with. BTW, that’s why anorexia and bulimia are contraindications. The other big contraindication is alcohol. Stay completely dry while on Wellbutrin. Alcohol may interfere with other ADs, but with Wellbutrin it can cause seizures. If you can be (or already are) a teatotaller, this should be no problem for you. My prescriber is also trying to find an antianxiety med that I can tolerate (I have nasty side effects with Effexor and Celexa), so I’m guessing that Wellbutrin isn’t itself an antianxiety. But for me, it is good at treating depression. I sensed immediate results during the first week at the 50mg/day level (standard therepudic dose is 300 mg/day). Again, I am likely _very_ responsive to Wellbutrin, so you may have to wait several weeks at a higher dose. —–BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE—– Version: PGPfreeware 6.5.8 for non-commercial use <http://www.pgp.com iQA/AwUBPIUmCkdroV5D+kXPEQJumQCgrRN47bk6RWTmoZnHmLKB2l4LmoEAnR58 AC1BP8lgKRyh8WCV6ON+kh19 =08UA —–END PGP SIGNATURE—–

Hi Joanne, Taking Zoloft (Lustral over here in the UK) was an awful mistake for me. Within hours, I was experiencing a really clamping jaw tension – which my daft doctor stupidly claimed I had always had even though I had never had it before. My eyes went odd and starey, and felt pressured – this settled down after a few days but they were never right while I was on it. I had the awful nausea you mentioned, plus the upset stomach, headaches, and all sorts of other goodies. The nausea stayed after taking it, so did the bad stomach. Oh and I had tremors as well. Boy that stuff loved me. NOT. I suggest you keep an eye on it as it may be that it doesn’t agree with you. I wish I had come off sooner. Maybe have a chat about alternatives if it continues to be a problem. I found these side effects with all SSRI’s I tried (= Prozac and Seroxat). If you get muscle tension that you haven’t had before, like I did in my jaw, then I think that may be a real indication it is wrong for you. That said, you may decide that even this ‘wrong’ is more right for you than being without the benefits of the drug. Everyone is unique, chemically. I’m surprised by your doctor’s attitude about what were obviously some bad side effects. I was inpatient when the treating psychiatrist ordered clonazepam (Klonopin in the U.S.) to slow me down a little bit. I had that same clamping jaw tension and weirdness in my vision. It was diagnosed as a mild allergic reaction. I was immediately given diphenhydramine (Benadryl) by injection. A couple of hours of sleep and I was good to go. No more of that med for me. I now use a program for my Palm pilot called Epocrates. It’s like a portable PDR (Physician’s Desk Reference), which is the 4" thick, 6-8 lb. I KNOW what to expect before I take the med, and I can search through classes of meds for something with less annoying or fewer side effects. That way, I’m as well informed as my doctor. So was I and my whole family, but at that time I had only had PTSD for about 18 years and they hadn’t diagnosed it – I ended up researching the problem on the internet and finding out that I had PTSD, then having to convince them, then having an assessment which ended with the guy telling me he had been told to disprove that I had PTSD, but instead was appalled at how I had been treated and that, yes, I definitely had PTSD! How is that for an easy ride? NOT!

Well in hindsight I think I may have experienced something similar. I also wonder if it did long-term damage as my digestive system has never been the same since and I still have the awful clamping jaw that I never had before I took the stuff. I wonder if it altered something for the worse. Anyway, Kava Kava helps relax it if it is too bad. I did hear from an accident and emergency nurse though, and she said that she had encountered this muscular tension with SSRI usage, and that it was a sign that it really wasn’t agreeing with a person. Instead of keeping on taking it, they should come off it. Wish I had known that back then, or better still, that my doctor had! Never mind.

I think that is a really sensible and responsible approach. I do loads of research before I take anything significant. I have learned the hard way, but it pays to be in the know.

Risa, I am supposed to be taking Klonopin for Restless Leg Syndrome, and it helped a lot for that. I am having problems with my legs now I’m off of it. I find the muscle problems with Zoloft interesting in that I have fibromyalgia (and I believe Chronic Myofasial Pain Disorder). Add to that the osteoarthritis (was on Celebrex) and I have muscles and joints hurting literally everywhere. I am also supposed to be on neurontin. I’m to the point where I just want my anti-depressant, estrogen, klonopin, celebrex and the ambien. I am ready to ditch the other four meds I was on, but I think I ended up with them to counteract the side effects of the original meds (swelling in the feet and hands and high blood pressure). I can never tell which ailment is causing which "feeling!" Question:
Hi All, I’m seeing my PCP about my concerns with Zoloft. I’v been on it for maybe three months now and the only positive thing I can say is that it was a far cry better for me than Wellbutrin. I couldn’t tell if the Zoloft eased the anxiety at the switch or if just stopping the W did it. Now for the problems–obviously not initial side effects. Weight gain and unable to lose it not matter what I do–I’m not in to fads, just a good diet and as much excersize as I can tolerate. I’ve tried low fat, then low carb–all smart and balanced as I don’t want it to be in vain as soon as I start eating normally again. But I get no results. This is chipping away at my self esteem (and this has never happened to me before and I’m in my 40’s). Gritting/clenching my teeth. At first I thought it was recent dental work (crowns) but it is getting to be so severe that it is causing headaches and I can’t chew anything more firm than cooked rice. Meat? Forget it! I have been back to the dentist twice and though I haven’t completely let him off the hook, I think since I notice the teeth clenching all day long, I have to take some responsibility and look into the Zoloft possibility. I have small involuntary twitching in my arms and legs. It’s unnerving–I hate it. I fear parkinsons or something similar though, again, it started after I was on the Zoloft for a few months. Heightened anxiety all of a sudden. I was down to .75mgs daily and now am up to twice that–conciously I think for the teeth clenching–it seems to help a little–but also my entire disposition, mood, all over feel. I have horrible nightmares every nightl. I can not even bring myself to tell you the content. They seem to last for ever and if you consider the worst possible thing that could happen to a parent, that is what I am dealing with almost every night. I seem to sob all night long, though I know dreams are very short. Consequently, I wake up with a horrible yet relieved feeling–but very exhausted. I used to get canker sores as a child. NOT COLD SORES–they are so often confused with one another. My mom took me to many doctors and there was nothing they could do back then–I’m hoping medicine has made some progress in this area. This has to be some of the worst pain I have ever had to endure and they seem to be nonstop–two or three coming on the heels of another two or three just healing. I am guaranteed a canker sore (mine always result from trauma) if I eat chips, crisp french bread, if I bite the inside of my cheek when eating. They last a good 1 1/2 to 2 weeks and I realize that the Zoloft may not be to blame but I like to be informed when I see the doc. I have seen a few studies posted here recently about the teeth clenching. Truly, I don’t know if I benefit at all from the Z. I am taking it for anxiety not depression. If anyone has any suggestions or has heard of any one else with a similar story. Any links to pertinent info also greatly appreciated. Finally, does anyone know how well Buspar seems to be working for GAD-ites. Since it’s not a member of the SSRI family—I read somewhere that pre-existing conditions can be exaserbated–something to do with the dopamine????? Obviously, I need some intelligent help here LOL.

Hi.. I see you are in your mid 40s,, just have to ask, are you female?? I have found out that many of my symptoms including my anxiety ( which manifests itself in many ways) are all peri/menopause related… have you checked that out?? it does not matter if you still are regular, your hormones can start fluctuating and cause all kinds of symptoms… just consider it , unless you are male of course! Unfortunately alot of the anti-depressants can cause weight gain.
You can clench your teeth when your anxious, angry, or in pain. It might be a symptom of your anxiety or perhaps the dental work. A few hours after my sister`s accident I started clenching my teeth. It was causing pain in my temples and at times it was so bad I was close to tears. It seemed the more I focused on the clenching the worse it got. Believe it or not, chewing gum seemed to help me. What does your doctor say when you tell him you can`t eat anything harder than rice? I have small involuntary twitching in my arms and legs. It’s unnerving–I hate it. I fear parkinsons or something similar though, again, it started after I was on the Zoloft for a few months.
Twitching is a very common symptom of anxiety. I have had twitches in my arms and legs, the most annoying place to get a twitch is my eyelids. When I went on Paxil they stopped. Maybe your Zoloft dose is just not enough to relieve your anxiety. I think the only way to find out if it is anxiety or the Zoloft causing these symptoms is to get off of it and see what happens. Heightened anxiety all of a sudden. I was down to .75mgs daily and now am up to twice that–conciously I think for the teeth clenching–it seems to help a little–but also my entire disposition, mood, all over feel.
Has increasing the dose helped with the symptoms and the heightened anxiety? I have horrible nightmares every nightl. I can not even bring myself to tell you the content. They seem to last for ever and if you consider the worst possible thing that could happen to a parent, that is what I am dealing with almost every night. I seem to sob all night long, though I know dreams are very short. Consequently, I wake up with a horrible yet relieved feeling–but very exhausted.
When my anxiety is high for a extended period, I get terrible nightmares. I know what you are going through, I use to be afraid to go to sleep for fear of what I would dream. ((((((Little bear))))) I used to get canker sores as a child. NOT COLD SORES–they are so often confused with one another. My mom took me to many doctors and there was nothing they could do back then–I’m hoping medicine has made some progress in this area. Hmmm, did the jaw clenching start after you started getting canker sores? I would bet that your jaw clenching is related to the cankers, indirectly. You said yourself it is some of the worst pain you have endured You might be clenching due to the pain in your mouth. You should tell your doctor about these sores, he may be able to give you a ointment to help with the inflammation. Avoid citrus fruit, tomato`s and nuts. I also heard that many of the toothpaste we use can cause cankers in sensitive individuals. I realize that the Zoloft may not be to blame but I like to be informed when I see the doc. I have seen a few studies posted here recently about the teeth clenching. Truly, I don’t know if I benefit at all from the Z. I am taking it for anxiety not depression. Buspar is effective for generalized anxiety disorder, which is what I think you said you have. You don`t suffer from panic attacks, right? I don`t think it would hurt to try the Buspar.
really think for your best interest you should see a psych doctor for diagnosis and treatment. Most MD`s just don`t have the knowledge to treat anxiety disorders properly. Take care and good luck tomorrow. *Hugs* Jackie

back after a year
Question:
Hi Sherri. I was here about two years ago and now I’m back. But I don’t feel depressed. Right now, I should add. I take prozac and I am also 28. Depression is pretty much a biweekly battle for me (meaning, every two weeks, it tries to take me down). – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I was here about a year ago, looking for some support for this horrible feeling. Now I’m back. I don’t think this will ever go away. Sometimes giving in sounds much better. From some of your post you know what i mean. I was really gone last year at this time, but I’m feeling better now. Who knows about tomorrow. Well anyway I really would like to get to know some of you. But I really don’t know how to start. I was wondering how many woman verses men there are that suffer from depression. And also the age. I’m wondering if you fell the same as I do. Are most of you taking medication? If so what do you take, and are you getting better? I’ve probably taken about 15 different kinds. I feel like I’m riding a roller coaster ride that makes me sick. UP Down UP DOWN Hopefully you can answer some of my questions. Anxiously awaiting you reply. Sherri

I’m not taking it, but IIRC, it’s an SSRI like med (it’s not precisely like Prozac, Zoloft, or Paxil, but it does inhibit reuptake of seratonin at (presumably different) selected sites) and it’s supposed to be more ‘energizing’ than the other SSRIs. (That is, the side effects tend not to be sleepiness or fatigue; they tend to be anxiety, etc.) — Everything I needed to know in life I learned in kindergarten. Response:
Hi, LaLaura: I take adderal and effexor. The effexor helps with my motivation and mood swings. The adderal helps my thought process and energy level. But I think that the effexor has an impact on my energy level too. A friend of mine has been taking effexor at 37.5mg three times a day (I take same dose twice a day) and his blood pressure went up. His ADD dr. is monitoring the blood pressure now before determining whether it’s the effexor raising the pressure, and if it’s not the effexor, then he’ll prescribe a higher dose of effexor. This friend of mine can’t seem to get anything done, and his motivation level even on effexor three times a day is really not good. However, this is probably because he has underlying emotional issues that he’s not dealing with……As for me, I’m doing really well on the dosage I’m taking. …..There’s so much stuff to do, to think about, to assemble. Oh no, Mr. Bill, I’ve turned into my stuff!!!
Response:
Have been taking Effexor for 3+ years. It has been the best of all of the antidepressants for me. None of the SSRIs worked, the Tricyclics had horrendous side effects, and Serzone also had some strange side effects. I started taking it in conjuction with Ritalin, but now take Effexor and Adderall. I do remember that the first few days Effexor was a little rough on my stomach, but those symptoms subsided within a week. Effexor reduces ‘reuptake’ of norepinephirine and dopamine as well as seratonin so it can treat both ADD and depression/anxiety. It even treated my allergies! Unfortunately, like a strong antihistamine, it caused me so much urinary tract irritation that I had to stop taking it.

Interesting. I’m grateful to you and to the other fine people who posted so far. I’m considering trying effexor, since both rit and dex leave much to be desired in my case. I’m not at all depressed, but I do apparently have temporal lobe as well as frontal lobe dysfunction, which has rendered me virtually handicapped, although I’m a sharp gal in many ways. For example, petty anxieties paralyze me, but I can be quite bold and effective in a real emergency. I have no sure sense of time or timing, unless I’m dancing. If music is involved I’m brilliant, but I’m never sure what day of the week it is. An hour can seem like a day, and whole days can zip by in seconds. Whole years vanish from my conciousness, but I’ll never forget some minor incident from my girlhood. Minor irritations that other people shrug off loom large to me, but things that terrify ordinary people are to me laughably tiny. In short, I’m out of step with the entire rest of the race of humanity. I don’t have a different drummer, I’ve got a whole dad-blamed different orchestra. It would not be a problem if people didn’t complain, but alas, much fault has been found with me, and I can’t keep a job to support myself. I would like to be able to provide for myself, at least. — Laura Goodwin "Pain is fleeting, glory is forever. Remember: scars are sexy."

That’s not true. It *CAN* happen; it can happen with most antidepressants, even those not known for it (some folks have reported sexual side effects from Wellbutrin, which has also shown a significant INCREASE to libido in one experiment), but the only way to know is to try. Wellbutrin and Serzone are the two noted for having the least sexual-side effects. — Everything I needed to know in life I learned in kindergarten. Question:
Hi everyone, I have not posted to your group in a very long time. I have lost my support group and need your support in dealing with my GAD and life as a fellow sufferer. I have been suffering from GAD for over 3 yr. now and have been under treatment for about 1 and a half years. It’s been a long strange trip indeed
Currently I am taking Prozac and Knoplin (misspelled I know) and am having moderate success. I have tried many alternative medicines and pharmaceuticals in dealing with this disease and am anxious to share with the group and get feedback. Feel free to talk to me about anything or get on my ICQ list my ICQ number is 4058408. I would love to share information. Peace, lunarchld

Bonnie…..I’ll send you the ICQ program…..just run it while you are already online with AOL…..ICQ is just another communication form……you can see at a glance who is online, send quick messages like IM’s to people with other servers, and chat with people from other servers so you aren’t confined to AOL chat rooms. And the sound waves are cute! Anyone wanting the little program to run ICQ, drop me your e-mail address and I’ll send the program. I THINK it’s free…..I’ve had it about 6 months and it was when I logged on. Just send me your e-mail address and I’ll forward the program to you. KC

Yeah Cindy, as a matter of fact, I have it written down, somewhere, uuuhhhmmm, where is it??? next time you are online Trudy, find the ICQ program and run it. Then "connect"…….you CHOOSE who you want to chat to, or send instant messages to. for instance……if you are online right now reading this…..you might hear a little voice say……"incoming message"…..then you click on receive, and it could be me sending a message to you while I’m online at the same time! I could also initiate a "chat" mode with you…..where a screen comes up and we can talk back and forth in real time. As I type my message, the letters come up on your screen!!! And you can answer immediately too! I’m a computer flunky, and if I can figure it out, ANYONE can. Jus tmake sure you run your program WHILE YOU ARE ALREADY ONLINE WITH YOUR ISP. I’ll add you to my list Trudy and you’ll get a system message! KC Cindy

Spike, as others, I appreciate all the effort your putting in for me. Thank You Stephanie – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Jenwolf may be correct. If you think that is the case do this, off-line; reboot, go to dos, type this: netstat -anc:netstat.txt. press enter, type this: exit press enter, that gets things back to windows. Then look in windows and a file called netstat.txt will be there. (notepad) If you know about ports, check it yourself, if not mail the text to me. With your type of connection you have. I don’t think that is the case, however. Still this little thing is good to know. spike If you believe that someone else is posting to usenet and forging your return e-mail address on their posts, then you too can send a copy of the offending post (with complete headers) to their ISP (and to their NNTP-Posting-Host if they are different). It is a violation of most ISP’s "acceptable use policy" or "terms of service" to forge someone else’s e-mail address. you might also want to check your machine for trojan horses. . .like netbus or subseven. they could be used to *easily* steal passwords and proceed to post or send email in the name of the person stolen from, *from* that person’s account(s). http://jenwolf.virtualave.net/

Jenwolf may be correct. If you think that is the case do this, off-line; reboot, go to dos, type this: netstat -anc:netstat.txt.
eh? no no no, you need to do netstat while you are *on* line. that way you can see who is connected to you or, if you’re fast enough who is sending you udp packets. as well as what ports are listening. some trojans listen on a certain port(s), which could be seen with an offline netstat, but i’ve never tried it. the easiest way, for someone who is not really in to the technicalities of networking, is to check the registry. hit the start button, then run, type in "regedit" and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARE<MicrosoftWidowsCurrentVersionRun if there are any files there that end with exe, delete them. this will prevent the blasted thing from starting up every time you reboot. (or just exit the registry, use a virus cleaner to rid your system of them, reboot and check the registry again.) note the name of the file and then search the system for it and delete it. unfortunately there are a lot of rat trojans out there, so this may or may not work for all of them. the *best* way to be rid of the damned things is to lowlevel format the drive, most of the newer bios’ have a utility to do this, but it could be risky for certain hard drives. http://jenwolf.virtualave.net/
